HE KAHU KŌRERO

A kaupapa Māori education initiative that brings together Māori communities to revive and pass on the traditional art of whatu - customary Māori weaving.

HONOURING THE GIFT OF PUHIWAI RANGI

In 2024, Ngāti Hei honoured sperm whale Puhiwai Rangi in a traditional harvest, documented by New Zealand Geographic at Wharekaho.

In Wharekaho, Hauraki, the legacy of Puhiwai Rangi — a sperm whale gifted to Ngāti Hei in 2022 — continues to inspire new learning and cultural practice.
